Instructors with Step Into Swing
Rae and Larry Mullica
Larry and Rae Mullica are favorites among the students in the Central Iowa Swing dance scene. Known for their fun and energetic approach to teaching, they have inspired many new Hepcats to continue their education about the Swing dance culture. Their history in partner dancing spans over 30 years and began when Disco and the Hustle were all the rage. They have developed a passion for Swing that is demonstrated by their on-going pursuit to spread Swing awareness across the State of Iowa. In the spring of 2007, Larry and Rae founded the organization Step Into Swing. Since the organization's inception, the Mullicas have organized and sponsored three Iowa Lindy Blizzard workshops, a monthly dance, a weekly swing social, formed three dance troupes, and have developed a swing education program that introduces Swing dancing to students of all ages.
Recent accomplishments include taking 5th Place in the Twin Cities Balboa Festival 2008, first in the Fast Dance Competition at the 2006 Hawkeye Swing Festival and performing as featured dancers in the Des Moines Playhouse's 2006 production of the musical Swing! Rae also made the Jack and Jill finals at Twin Cities Balboa Festival, 2008, and Hawkeye Swing Festival Jack and Jill finals 2007. Larry and Rae had the wonderful opportunity to teach with Frankie Manning in 2006 at the Frank Manning Workshop in Fairfield, Iowa. They have also taught at Hawkeye Swing Festival for two years.
Larry and Rae are known for their fun, smooth style and flair to perform. They love teaching all forms of Swing and continue to look for new and creative ways to teach and get people dancing. ***Larry and Rae teaching at Java Joes.
